INITIATIVES


 Experiential learning journey to KTP Hospital

Objectives


  • By making the learning situation meaningful to the life of the student and connected to real life events, students are better able to construct knowledge and to make meaning from school-based learning.

  • Enable students to be engaged with their learning.

  • To expose students to an authentic learning environment where they will be encouraged to conduct ethnography research by taking notes and pictures of the surroundings details.

  • To encourage students to use the information and data collected to design for the target users.

Description

  • Students visited the Abled Studio at KTP Hospital which displayed special equipment designed for the elderly and disabled people.

  • Students will analyse the equipment, understand how these equipment work and take pictures of them.

  • Each student has prepared a set of survey questions to interview the users and the nurses so as to understand the needs of the users.

  • During curriculum time, students will print out the pictures and carry out product analysis to find out the good and points so as to further improve the product by redesigning.

Design Module Course
Objectives


  • To enable students to sketch 3D object using Isometric Drawing.

  • To enable students to expand their idea conceptualization possibilities

  • To enable students to evaluate their idea using mock-ups

  • To prepare students for their GCE N and O Level Coursework.

Description

Students are taught:

  • To draw objects by applying crating technique

  • Understanding the xyz axes

  • Ideation sketching

  • Drawing of an isometric view of a product (final drawing)

  • Iterative design process by developing ideas through a series of testing

  • Form and function explorations using paper mock-up and cardboard

  • Design evaluation with final cardboard prototype

Junior Show

Objectives


  • A collaboration with the Aesthetic department to showcase students’ knowledge and skills acquired in the Art, D&T and Home Economic subjects

  • Students embarked on coursework themes which are Heritage (Ang Mo Kio as well as Singapore)-infused.

  • Allow students to share on what Our Heritage and Home mean to them, as they display creativity from exploring coursework themes such as ‘Ethnic Food Cultures and Spices’ and ‘Innovative Heritage Toys’.

Description

  • Through the design process knowledge that the teachers have imparted to the Sec 2 D&T students, these students will design and make innovative heritage toys in the workshop using acrylic and jeutong.

  • Each class will have 5 to 7 representatives to showcase their toys at the Junior Show.

  • The students will design their Presentation Board using Photo Shop to publicize their toys

  • The best 5 toys will be awarded the Young Designer Award

  • The Sec 1 HE students will carry out a project on Ethnic Food Cultures and Spices

  • The Sec 1E HE students will design healthy Ethnic food recipe where best 3 recipes will win the Young Culinarian Award

  • The Sec 1NA HE students will research on the different Ethnic Food Cultures where the findings are displayed on presentation boards. The best 3 presentations will win the Young Food Ambassador Award.

Learning Journey to Health Zone for Sec 1

Objectives


  • Collaboration with PE department

  • To provide Health Education to raise awareness of healthy body, diet and nutrition

  • To learn how one’s health behaviour affect his health and to equip him with the motivation, tips and skills to practise good health habits for life.

Description

  • Each class will be accompanied by either a HE or PE to the Health Zone at HPB

  • Students would learn about good health through interactive displays and colourful models.
