Moving out of the covid season and into the endemic phase allowed the students to gradually ease back into regular training sessions and working hard once again on the court. The students were finally able to get the full experience of what our CCA has to offer.
On 31 March 2023, our Volleyball teachers conducted a Team Bonding Day Camp. One segment of the bonding activities was held indoors within school and the other segment was held at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. The outdoor activities required the groups to work as a team to complete an amazing race. Teams were awarded points for completed tasks which required the use of volleyball related skills or their communication skills. For the indoor activities, the teams played games like charades. The camp served as an opportunity for the junior players to get to know the seniors and everyone had lots of fun during the camp.
On 21 June 2023, Our Volleyball Team had another round of bonding activities. This time our students went on a hike. The activity is designed to give our students opportunities to lead their peers and to encourage team building through shared experiences. For this hike, the students started off at Hort park and walked in 3 big groups towards Henderson waves and ending with the Marang Trail. The Volleyball Team then walked to Vivo City where they had their lunch. Along the way, group leaders were tasked to lead the group members and make sure that everyone was able to follow the pace and were kept well hydrated. Although the students were sports trained, some of them still felt the hike was quite a challenge with all the uphill climbs, but the view was worth it! The students thoroughly enjoyed it. These are just some of the activities that our CCA teachers have prepared for our students.
Although neither team make it to the finals of the ‘B’ Division South Zone tournament 2023, the volleyball team players gained invaluable experience from those matches. The students will continue to challenge themselves and prepare for the ‘C’ Division games later this year.
