A famous volleyball player once said, “volleyball is one of the most interactive games. It is a game of intuition, imagination, improvisation, but most importantly, of reciprocity and of teamwork. There is no way to free-lance in volleyball.” This statement sums up the Ang Mo Kio Volleyball spirit –the embodiment of values like teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.

Ang Mo Kio’s Volleyball team has come a long way since its early days. We’ve had our ups and downs but 2018 still ranks as one of our very best years. For starters, both our B division boys and C division girls made it to the finals of the South Zone Volleyball Championships. At the Nationals round, our boys made history by reaching the top
eight, a feat not achieved in more than a decade.

Both of our boys, Song Guo Rui Keave and Boo Bing Xun caught the eye of talent scouts and were selected to train with the National team. One of our girls, Seah Yun Zhen Desiree was also selected to represent Singapore at the Asean School Games. Furthermore, one of our alumni, Alicia Tan Kai Yun, from the class of 2017, represented
Singapore in the Asian U19 Beach Volleyball Championships in Thailand. This prestigious competition served as a qualifying tournament for the upcoming YOG. Although Alicia did not qualify for the YOG, she did our nation and school really proud by giving her regional opponents a good run for their money. Well done, our Volleyball
AMKsians! The hard work put in by the players and the coaches has certainly paid off and we are extremely proud of their achievements. We would like to thank the coach and the alumni for their dedication and hard work invested in the students.

On the 12th of March, we also held our annual volleyball camp. It was a fruitful experience for the players as they participated in many interesting activities. The camp included team building activities to help the players get to know one another better and physical training to work on their fitness. A farewell cum BBQ was also
held during the night of the camp when the juniors showed their appreciation for the outgoing players of the team.

As the curtains of 2018 draw to a close, we look forward to another great year ahead for the volleyball team! “Ang Mo Kio… ACE! ACE! ACE!”
