The AMKSS Malay Dance Group, known as Gemilang Sari, is a dedicated group of dancers passionate about promoting Malay dance and culture. This close-knit CCA aims to develop its members into poised and confident performers, fostering a sense of mutual care and support. Guided by the motto ‘Satu Hati, Satu Jiwa’ which means ‘One Heart, One Soul’ in English, the group emphasizes unity and shared passion in their artistic endeavors
The group has performed and participated at various school events, such as NOMAD, MTL Fortnight, Hari Raya Celebrations, Awards Day and the AMKsian Showcase. In March this year, the dancers had the opportunity to collaborate with dancers from Mayflower Secondary School in a production titled ‘The Museum’. This collaboration was a valuable learning experience, allowing the dancers to exchange ideas and techniques, thereby enhancing their performance skills, and fostering creativity through teamwork. These experiences enhance the dancers’ skills and provide numerous opportunities to showcase their talents and share their love for dance.
Last year, the dancers had a chance to perform on an international platform of the Muara Festival while this year, the dancers participated in a traditional Malay Dance Competition, Mutiara Tari 2024. These prestigious events provided the dancers with opportunities to showcase their talents beyond the school setting, gaining exposure to a wider audience and receiving valuable feedback from professionals in the field. Participation in these events not only honed their dance skills but also instilled a sense of discipline and resilience. Moreover, these experiences fostered camaraderie among the dancers and allowed them to build connections with peers who share their passion for Malay dance.
In essence, Gemilang Sari is more than a dance group; it is a nurturing environment where members can develop both their artistic talents and interpersonal connections while celebrating the rich heritage of Malay dance. The motto ‘Satu Hati, Satu Jiwa’ encapsulates the spirit of unity and collective passion that defines the group’s ethos.
