AMKSS Malay Dance Group, also known as Gemilang Sari, is a group of passionate dancers who seek to promote an appreciation of Malay dance and culture. This is a tight- knit CCA that aims to nurture our members into confident and graceful dancers and foster a sense of care and concern for one another.
The dance group performed at many school events such as MTL Fortnight, Hari Raya Celebration and AMKsian Showcase. Last March, the dance group also had the opportunity to learn from dancers in other schools through a Schools Dance Exchange Programme hosted by Boon Lay Secondary School. These platforms enhance dancers’ performance skills and provide dancers with extensive opportunities to showcase their talents and share the joy of dancing. Through hard work and perseverance, the dance group was awarded Distinction in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation (SYF) this year.
Last year, selected dancers were privileged to participate in Muara Youth Dance Development Programme (MYDDP), an inaugural programme set up in conjunction with celebrating Muara Festival. This is a must-attend festival for Malay dance and music enthusiasts in the region. The selected dancers went through three phases of dance development training programme under the guidance of a professional dance troupe, ERA Dance Theatre Limited, and put up a performance at the Esplanade Outdoor Theater. Through this programme, our dancers fostered camaraderie among student dancers in Singapore and further expand their network as well as create new bonds.
In addition to the above, dancers will be given the opportunity to watch professional dance productions. Through these opportunities, dancers will gain invaluable experiences that will develop them into more skillful dancers who share the same passion and develop a purposeful support group to grow and learn together.
